Salt therapy is an effective treatment for a wide range of respiratory conditions. From minor ailments like coughs and colds, through to more persistent conditions such as asthma, bronchitis and hayfever/rhinitis, salt therapy can be used to treat the symptoms and reduce the long-term impact of these illnesses. Salt therapy is particularly effective at treating COPD and is recognised by the NHS as a complimentary treatment for the condition.
The microscopic particles of salt in the atmosphere of the treatment room are able to penetrate deep into the lungs, reducing inflammation and helping to clear out mucus blocking the airways. The salt kills bacteria in the respiratory tract and makes it difficult for any new bacteria to recolonise. It also acts to thin and break down mucus build-up and improves the mechanical removal of mucus.
