World COPD Day

COPD, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, is the name used to describe a collection of lung diseases. These include emphysema, which effects the air sacs in your lungs, chronic bronchitis, which effects your airways, and chronic obstructive airways disease.

COPD is a condition where the airways become inflamed and the air sacs in your lungs are damaged. This causes your airways to become narrower, which makes it harder to breathe. Therefore, people with COPD have many problems such as breathing difficulties, breathlessness when active, persistent cough with phlegm and can suffer frequent chest infections.

It is one of the most common respiratory diseases in the UK, with around 900,000 people diagnosed. However, the number affected is thought to be over 3 million. This is because it is thought a lot of people dismiss it as a 'smokers cough' and do not seek further medical assistance.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for COPD, but there are lots of treatments available to help you manage your condition, improve your symptoms and live an active life.This include's Halotherapy (salt therapy).

How can Salt relieve the symtpoms of COPD;

  • Salt therapy is Antibacterial and Anti-inflammatory
  • Salt penetrates the lungs to cleanse the respiratory system
  • Speeds up the elimination of toxins
  • Loosens excessive mucus and speeds up mucociliary transport
  • Removes pathogens (ie., airborne pollen)
  • Reduces IgE level (immune system over-sensitivity)
  • Repeairs damaged tissue by penetrating deep into the lungs

Salt therapy kills bacteria, which is a major element of bronchitis. It helps to shift the mucus retained, therefore reducing the chance of chest infections. As well as all this, he antibacterial qualities also help to strengthen the immune system. So all of this can contribute to long term health benefit's and relief.
